Shoes for Mexico 2005

Mexico Project

--VBS Mission Project Update--

For our 2005 Vacation Bible School, we decided to dedicate our mission offering to Mexico. The reason behind the decision was an event that happened during our summer mission trip to a church we’ve adopted in San Luis, Mexico. We were there presenting a mini Vacation Bible School for the children in the area. We had Bible dramas and games; the children really enjoyed the event.

One of the games was a water activity, so the children took off their shoes and played in the water. At the end of the day, as he was nearing his home, a little boy realized he had left his shoes back at the church — his only pair of shoes. He was terrified, because he knew he would be in trouble and punished severely for forgetting, so he ran back to the church, at least 20 minutes away, to retrieve his shoes.

Many small villages in Mexico are very poor, and children often have only one set of school clothes and one pair of shoes. What a difference compared to all that we have! But Jesus tells us to care for His children, and our VBS kids did just that. They brought in their pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars —some of the kids did extra chores to earn more money to give—and they raised $1,018.65!

We sent a Missions Team to our Mexico Church over Veteran’s Weekend in November and purchased a pair of shoes for each of the children. Click on the link to see pictures from that trip.

Thank you to each child and family that gave to this project. Our little ones made a BIG difference and provided a wonderful blessing.
